Donating Quilts to Those in Need

“A Slice of Baltimore” by a group of Baltimore Heritage Quilters’ Guild quilters

“May every stitch bring you the peace and comfort of a friend’s embrace.”

The Baltimore Heritage Quilt Guild has a long history of its members generously making and providing quilts and other quilted projects to those in need in the Baltimore metro area.  Over the years, Guild members have made and donated hundreds of quilts to various charities — from baby to adult-sized quilts.  The Guild’s designated charities for 2023 are the House of Ruth, SAFE and DV Program at GBMC, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.  Donations to other charities that have special ties to our members are also made, as requested.

The Guild’s members create their quilts using their own materials or they can use fabric that has been generously donated.  Among other events, the Guild hosts Charity Quilt-a-Thons at least twice a year, in which members meet to work together on charity quilting projects.

The Guild is always seeking donations of quilts, fabric, batting, and other material. If you would like to donate, please contact Outreach@baltimorequilters.com

House of Ruth

The House of Ruth (HOR) provides emergency shelter and transition housing to women and children that have been the victims of domestic abuse.  Many of these families flee violent homes with nothing and the gift of a quilt can be comforting and useful. HOR estimates that it assisted over 500 women and 1,000 children in 2020 and is in desperate need of assistance to continue helping these families.

The HOR needs quilts of all sizes: baby, child, and twin adult.

This is just a sampling of the many quilts our members have donated to the HOR

SAFE and DV Program at GBMC

The SAFE and DV Program at GBMC provides compassionate and confidential medical, forensic, and crisis counseling to Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence and Child Abuse victims to improve the safety, health and well-being, across the individual’s lifespan. The program assists victims with their safety and emotional need referring them for follow-up support, counseling, shelter, and legal assistance.

Our quilts will be given to patients going to shelters or being displaced from their homes after an assault. The program is requesting child, lap, and twin sized quilts since they treat patients across the lifespan.

Our hospital provides primary care and specialty health services, including mental health services, women’s health care, multiple sclerosis treatment, care for Veterans who are blind or have low vision, cancer treatment, physical therapy, chronic pain management, and more.
