Phyllis Hatcher

Australian Aboriginal Fabric Dot Art
Power Point Lecture and Trunk Show

Annapolis resident Phyllis has traveled and taught quilting in Australia where she fell in love with the Aborigine culture.

Aboriginals in Australia have created dot art designs for thousands of years. See how the current indigenous outback artists are the creators of fabric designs now used by quilters, sewers, and decorators everywhere. Phyllis will explain the meaning of the fabric designs as they relate to Aboriginal culture and real life in the desert outback which she has visited several times. Over 30 actual fabrics will be on display and examined.

From Then to Now, A Trunk Show of My Quilting Life

Starting from as far back as Erin can go, she will show you a fun and inspiring collection of quilts
including the good, the bad and the “if I only knew better” Quilts. As a quilt-a- holic who plans to
never recover, she thrives on absorbing all she can about quilting and sharing techniques and
tricks with others. Since she has tried a little bit of everything from hand-applique to machine
embellishments, paper-piecing to crazy quilting, large and traditional to small and artsy, you just
never know what she’ll get into next. Share her journey as she shows you that no matter your
likes, styles, or experience, quilting has something to offer everyone. After the lecture, the
audience is encouraged to get close-up and personal with her quilts. Fondling is permitted.

dahlia quilt with beautiful dresdens. No curved piecing! No templates! Use the Creative Grids
22.5 Degree Triangle Ruler to make the dresdens then applique them down by machine.

Celebrate National Quilting Day at our March Meeting
Join us for an evening of charity quilting and speakers from our designated charities, as we celebrate National Quilting Day by giving to others!  We have speakers lined up to talk to us about our two projects for veterans, and we hope that someone from the House of Ruth will also join us.   We will have everything set up and ready to go by 6 p.m., so those of you who like to come to sit and sew can get an early start!  Our speakers will present during the regular meeting time.
We plan to have stations set up where you can put your skills to work on:
Sewing — piece blocks from our current kits
Jellyrolls — put together jellyroll kits (jellyrolls and a list of easy jellyroll quilts)
Cutting — cut fabric into strips for the jellyroll kits or hack strips into bits for pet beds
Accuquilt — cut out appliqués for charity quilts or post cards
Postcards  — make postcards
Ironing — press fabric for jellyrolls and apply fusible for accuquilt cutting
Fabric “shopping”— check the Guild’s stash for yardage you can use for a charity quilt
If you have any questions or would like to bring a machine or accuquilt and dies, please contact Linda Anderson at 410-653-9754 or at

Patty Prodonovich Trunk Show ” One Thing Leads to Another”
Patty began her quilting journey in 1986. In 2002, Patty decided to try her hand at teaching and discovered that she truly enjoyed sharing her quilting knowledge with other quilters of all levels. She finds great joy in introducing the quilting tradition to beginners and watching their skill level increase over time. Patty has taught quilting classes at numerous quilting retreats and quilt shops in Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Her quilts have won various awards in quilt shows in the Tri-State region. In 2012, one of her quilts was selected to hang on display at The National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky as part of the “Quilts of the Appalachian-East” exhibit. Patty lives in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Berkley Plantation Table Runner

Approx. size 22 x 48

Skill level: intermediate

This 3 color block is simple to make using flying geese and half square triangles.  In class you will learn to make precise flying geese 4 at a time using 3 colors instead of the traditional 2 color version.  The star in the center can be modified for a different look.

In the class,  we will be making a table runner using the 12” block.  You will also  receive information to make the 16” block which is great for a bed size quilt.

The name of the block used in this project is “Swoon” To get some great ideas for colors, just google Swoon Quilt Block.  Pinterest  also has some good examples.

Workshop with Jane Hauprich

Beginning Your Journey With Free Motion Quilting on your domestic machine – In this class you will learn fun and easy designs that will allow you to start finishing your own quilt tops.  Jane will show you overall designs plus designs that will work in blocks, triangles and sashings and borders.  You will leave this class with a multitude of designs and ideas on how to start your journey in free motion quilting.

If you already do some free motion Jane will also address how to go about deciding how to quilt your quilt top.  You will leave with ideas and tips on how to devise a quilting plan for your quilt tops.  Please bring your quilt tops to discuss.

Per Jane “A little about my classes and teaching style….I believe that no matter what level you are starting at, you should be able to walk away from a class with knowing how to quilt overall patterns plus designs to fit into squares, triangles and borders, so that YOU can custom quilt your quilts.  I have also developed workbooks as an accessory for my classes that you can take home and will provide you hours of practice and they also make a great reference tool.”
