- September 8
- Art Show of Summer Challenge Quilts
- Small quilts inspired by the work of your favorite artist.
- October 13
- Speakers from our Charity Projects
- Hear from a representative of the House of Ruth and learn about some quick and easy quilt pattern ideas.
Our 2009-2010 charity is the Woodbrook Baptist Church Women's Ministry. This is our turn to give back to the Church that hosts our meetings. A representative from the Women's Ministry will speak on how our "healing quilts" will support women and families in the area. - November 10
- Gyleen Fitzgerald
- Finishing Antique Textiles
- November 14 (Saturday)
- Nothing is more stunning than twenty brilliant stars made from diamonds. "Seven Sisters" is what makes this quilt sparkle. The power in the sparkle is created by using diamond cut fabric shapes and 20 great fabrics from a narrow color palette. Come ready to learn a new technique which will open the door to making this beautiful quilt, and which can also be applied later to tumbling block quilts. Relax and chat while learning to use a new tool and technique; you are not expected to finish this in class since there is no speed sewing. This beauty takes time to complete.
- December 8
- Holiday Party
- Our Holiday program will consist of Bingo (with prizes), our Block exchange. Holiday food, Holiday Follies entertainment, Show and Tell, and our 2009 Quilt Raffle drawing (finally!). Time to lighten your mood during the stressful holiday season. What better way to treat yourself to some relaxation than to spend it with our own Guild members. Bring your holiday quilts or other works in progress.
- January 12
- Stash to Treasure, Book Auction, and Quilt Auction
- After Show and Tell, we’ll do our very successful Book Auction. Last year we received over $500 for this event. Bring in your previously loved books, CD’s, DVD’s, magazine collections, “how-to” books, etc. Due to space limitations, please bring in your books to the January meeting ONLY and give them to Dawn Burchett – our librarian. All proceeds go to our library fund to buy more up-to-date books and DVD’s that you’ve been requesting.
Stash to Treasure is also happening in January. Please bring your own plastic bags/boxes for toting your new treasures. Start saving your items. We have no room to store the Stash to Treasure items so bring them to the January program. If they aren’t priced, we can’t accept them (and you’ll have to take them home-oh my!).
Please price them - • fat quarters = $.50
- • ½ yd = $1
- • 1 yard = $2
-
We’ll have Gallon ziplock bags to fill for $3.
We’ll also take notions, patterns, yarn, silks- whatever. Please bundle them in plastic bags and price them. What an opportunity to unload things you don’t need and pick up some new treasures. Volunteers are needed to help stand behind tables and keep our process flowing.
Please contact Joan McMahon 410-733-0029 or Joan McMahon if you can help. - February 9

Guild members will be able to hold each piece for an up close and personal view.

- What is a Featherweight and Why all the Hype?
- Zac Zacharias will
explain the history of the Featherweight and why it
is such a popular machine for quilters. If you are
in the market for one, what should you look for?
Zac collects Featherweights and will bring several
unusual models. He has been featured in one of
Nancy Johnson-Srebro’s books on Featherweights.
Joining him will be John Kolasa of Stitches, Etc.
who services Featherweights. We’ll see a quilt
completed entirely on a Featherweight that any Guild member can do.
We’ll also take nominations for our Featured Quilters for the 2011 Expo Show as well as learn about a new Charity opportunity as a fund raiser for the Guild.
AND we’ll hold our annual officer elections. - June 8
- Taking the Math Out
- Are you Math Challenged? What are some common math issues we struggle with and how do we solve them easily? Two Guild members will share their approaches to dealing with math.

- Mary Lou Weidman
- Creative You
- Mary Lou's lecture covers all kinds of ways to become more creative. Mary Lou explains avenues of creativity, the personality of the creative person and how you can stretch and become more creative with your thoughts and your quilts. Prepare to be inspired and to go away thinking of things you want to do to be a new “creative YOU.” Be sure to ask quilting friends who are not BHQG members to save the date in their calendars so they can join us that evening – guest fee is $5
- November 10-11, 2010
- Self Portrait with Mary Lou Weidman
- This two day class has become very popular and in fact has taken many quilter's self portraits to Museums for shows. Step out of the box and learn about yourself and how you can put ideas and things you had not thought of before into a quilt to leave a lasting impression about who you are and what is important to you. These quilts become legacy pieces that can tell others imaginative, fun, and creative things. It might even surprise you to see how wonderful a self portrait of YOU can be.
Check out Mary Lou's work.
The workshop will be held at our regular meeting place, Woodbrook Baptist Church, from 10am until 4pm on the two days.
Workshop Enrollment please complete the registration form and return it ONLY BY MAIL to the address on the form, along with your payment. Postmark date will determine order of registration.
Member fee is $90 for the two day class. Non-members are welcome to register after July 14, 2010 if space is available; the non-member fee is $100. (New members joinging after May 1, 2010 are eligible to register at the member rate.) Class size is limited to 18.

Quilt Auction! Jody Schatz, a long-time member of our guild, has recently moved to Oakcrest. In the process of down-sizing, she has generously donated three quilts to the guild.
We will be offering the quilts for auction at the January 12, 2010 meeting and also posting them to our website with a 'Buy it Now' (coming soon) option for any of you who can't wait for the meeting!
One quilt is a hand-appliqued and hand-quilted, containing 16 tulip blocks and measuring 71 x 73". This quilt was purchased new in the 1930's by Jody's aunt. It has been well-loved and has some stains.
The second quilt, Carolina Lily, was made by Jody about 1990. The hand-pieced lily blocks were completed during travels to various places, then machine sewn into the top, which was then hand-quilted. This quilt measures 77" wide x 44" long.

The third quilt, an applique album, was one of the first Jody made, in about 1986. It is 48 x 48" in size, hand-appliquéd and hand-quilted.
